Influences on Greenways Usage for Active Transportation: A Systematic Review

Since the inception of greenways concept, transportation has been one its inherent qualities. Nevertheless, journal articles from past three decades reported negligible active (AT) impact many greenway investments worldwide. Simultaneously, an international empirical evidence base usage for AT not yet established. Therefore, this research aimed to identify and analyze influences on via a systematic review published peer-reviewed 1991 until 2021. The used protocols PRISMA Statement in reporting meta-analysis. Via two levels screening criteria, results identified 162 that focused users 27 (out 162) had as main part their study. specified patterns characteristics, perceptions, travel behaviors commuters greenways, which differed other user types. Differences use were also affected by weather temporal factors, greenways’ location contextual factors. A discussion findings four study types usage, highlighted methodological concerns reviews field, characterized transportation-led proposed conceptual framework illustrates where when would be considered routes daily commutes, suggested future work directions. These improve understanding thereby informing planning, design, management maximize potential.
